A total of 3534 diamonds weighing 210.68 carats have been recovered thus far from the ninth bulk sample trench excavated on the Star kimberlite at the Star-Orion South project in Saskatchewan.
The project, which is a joint venture of the Star Diamond Corporation and Rio Tinto Exploration Canada, has produced Type IIa diamonds weighing 10.13, 8.10, and 7.29 carats since its launch in 2019, Star Diamond reports.
“The recent recovery of larger Type IIa diamonds from Rio Tinto Canada’s bulk sample program continues to strengthen our expectation for recovery of large, high-value diamonds in a future producing diamond mine,” says the company’s president and CEO, Ken MacNeill. “There were also 5.15- and 3.44-carat diamonds recovered from the trench, with the [latter] being an ‘H’ octahedron.”
