Certified gemmologist (CG) Louis Smith has been named president of the American Gem Society (AGS).
Smith, owner of Smithworks Fine Jewelry in Spartanburg, S.C., takes over from outgoing president, David Gardner of David Gardner’s Jewelers in College Station, Texas.
The announcement came at AGS’s annual Conclave in April. Smith will remain board president until April 2016. “I’m very excited to assume the role of president,” he said.
“We have a talented team at headquarters, and a hardworking and dedicated board. With that combination and our membership, I’m looking forward to great things in the next two years.”
The 2014 to 2015 board of directors are:

The board also added three new members, each appointed as director-at-large: Frank Brown, Scott Udell, and Stewart Wicht.
