Calgary jewellers lose $200K in gold

Calgary jewellers lose $200K in gold

In a dramatic burglary, two masked men shattered the front door of Treasure Mountain Jewellery in Calgary around 1 a.m. on Feb. 2, making off with $200,000 worth of gold in minutes.

CCTV footage shows the thieves targeting a locked showcase, leaving behind shattered glass and overturned boxes.

Co-owner Jami Hughes expressed her heartbreak, noting that many stolen items were invaluable family heirlooms.

Despite security measures, the perpetrators seemed to know precisely where to strike. This incident adds to the shop’s troubling history of theft and vandalism.

According to Calgary City News, the Crescent Heights Village Business Improvement Area condemned the crime as “brazen,” emphasizing the need for better security infrastructure. As the investigation continues, Hughes hopes for a quick resolution and to feel safe in her store once again.

Armed suspects steal gold and cash

On Sunday, Feb. 1, at around 5 p.m., an armed robbery occurred at Cash for Gold in Hamilton, Ont. Three suspects, armed with a firearm and crowbars, forcibly entered the business located in the Hamilton Gardens Plaza on Fennell Avenue East.

They targeted gold, silver, and cash before escaping in a dark-colored SUV driven by a fourth accomplice. Hamilton Police are actively searching for the suspects as they investigate the incident.

Jewellery store robbed in less than a minute

A smash-and-grab raid unfolded at Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill, Ont., on Tuesday, Jan. 27, around 6 p.m. when a group of four individuals targeted a jewellery store. Armed with hammers, they shattered showcases and seized valuables in under a minute before making a hasty getaway in a waiting vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported seeing a suspicious person prowling through the mall earlier, seemingly scouting for the perfect target among the jewellers.

Toronto jeweller ambushed

An attempted robbery unfolded on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at a jeweller’s store in mid-town Toronto. After purchasing a significant amount of silver from a wholesaler in Mississauga, the jeweller was ambushed and injured by two individuals, believed to have stalked him from his earlier stop. Luckily, quick-thinking fellow business owners rushed to his aid, forcing the robbers to flee empty-handed.

Jewellery store front entrance smashed with SUV

On Thursday, Jan. 29, around 5 p.m., a robbery took place at the Buy N Sell City jewellery store in the area of Fairview Street and Maple Avenue in Burlington, Ont.  

A group of four or more suspects carried out a bold smash-and-grab by reversing a grey Honda CR-V through the front entrance, smashing showcases with hammers to take valuable jewellery.

Halton police are actively investigating the incident, as the masked assailants quickly made their escape in a dark-colored sedan, leaving the CR-V behind.

So far, no descriptions of the suspects have been released, and the total value of the stolen items remains unknown.

No injuries were reported during the chaotic heist. In the aftermath, authorities will assess the structural integrity of the damaged store.

Smash-and-grab robbery at Pickering Town Centre jewellery store

On Friday, Feb. 6, at approximately 7:25 p.m., a retail jewellery store within Pickering Town Centre was targeted in a smash-and-grab robbery.

Three suspects gained access to two showcases and made off with valuable items before fleeing the scene in an unknown vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic.

The suspects’ descriptions are below.

Suspect 1: Male, around 5’6″, slim build, wearing light-colored pants with a Nike logo, a shiny black puffy jacket, white gloves, and wielding a black and yellow hammer.

Suspect 2: Male, about 5’9″, slim build, dressed in black running shoes, white socks, black pants, and a black jacket, carrying a hammer and a black bag.

Suspect 3: Male, approximately 5’8″, slim build, in black running shoes, black socks, and a black puffy jacket, using a black and yellow hammer.

Authorities are investigating the incident and are seeking any information regarding the suspects or the vehicle involved.

Queen Street East jewellers deemed ‘high risk’ for burglary

Authorities reported a suspected burglary attempt at 55 Queen Street East, a prominent downtown jewellery establishment, during the night of Jan. 31 to Feb. 1, 2026. Several individuals have been arrested, though details remain limited. There is currently a high risk of burglary for businesses in this area, including other nearby jewellery shops that have not yet been targeted.
