Diamonds of Detroit has been named Business of the Year at the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce’s Achievement in Business Excellence (ABEX) Awards.
The Humboldt, Sask., jewellery retailer shares the top honour with Alliance Energy Ltd. of Regina.
“We are very proud to present the top ABEX prize to not one, but two excellent businesses this year,” said Steve McLellan, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
“Our adjudication panel felt that both Diamonds of Detroit and Alliance Energy deserved this honour. Both businesses have demonstrated exceptional accomplishments, and have made a positive economic impact on their region and the province.”
In addition, Diamonds of Detroit took home the award for service. The jeweller had also been nominated in the marketing category.
“I was completely delighted to receive the ABEX Customer Service Award,” said company president, Michelle Bankowski.
“We were nominated and finalists in two ABEX categories: marketing and customer service so you always know there is a chance your name will be called. No doubt, we were thrilled when we were announced as the winners of the service category. For me, personally, receiving the Customer Service award was the pinnacle of all the awards because customer service has always been a hallmark to our success.”
The winners were announced at a gala event that also celebrated the ABEX Awards’ 30th anniversary.
“The Achievement in Business Excellence Awards are the highest awards given for excellence in Saskatchewan to businesses,” Bankowski said. “The Business of the Year is selected from all 54 business finalists. When I heard my name called for Business of the Year, I was stunned. Never did I imagine my small business would receive such a prestigious award. Historically, the award is given to larger companies who deliver products and services throughout Saskatchewan, Canada, and internationally. I am extremely proud to receive this recognition. These achievements are not attained alone—it takes loyal customers, committed staff, suppliers, and support from family and friends. They all share in this success.”
An adjudication panel chose 54 businesses from a list of nominees to compete in 10 ABEX categories that also included community involvement, aboriginal business partnership, and growth and expansion.
