Jewellery industry and law enforcement collaboration receives top awards
Efforts to curb organized retail theft in Toronto spotlighted with provincial and international honours.

Jewellery industry leaders and law enforcement agencies are being recognized for their joint efforts to combat organized retail theft in the Greater Toronto Area.
Jewellers Vigilance Canada (JVC), the Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA), Toronto Crime Stoppers and Toronto Police Service partnered on a campaign launched March 7, 2025, in response to a surge in robberies earlier this year. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about organized retail crime and strengthen prevention strategies.
The campaign has earned international and provincial recognition. Toronto Crime Stoppers received the Crime Stoppers International (CSI) Collaboration Award, honouring programs that unite law enforcement, retail partners and the public to fight organized retail crime. It also received the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers (OACS) Marla Moon Award of Excellence for outstanding program development and community reward initiatives that enhance public safety.
Sean Sportun, chair of Toronto Crime Stoppers, said in an email statement that the awards reflect the strength of collaboration behind the campaign.
“These achievements are a direct reflection of our partnership and collaboration,” Sportun wrote. “Earning both OACS and CSI awards is no small accomplishment, and it reinforces how our collective efforts here in Toronto are being recognized on the global stage.”
Stopping organized retail theft and protecting jewellers remains a priority for JVC and the CJA. Both organizations plan to announce modernization efforts in the new year to better serve Canada’s jewellery industry.
