Russian diamond mining company, Alrosa, has revealed the unearthing of a 468-carat rough diamond—reportedly the largest gem-quality stone ever found in the nation. The striking amber-hued diamond measuring 56x54x22 mm, was extracted from one of Alrosa’s operations in the Yakutia region. This discovery surpasses the company’s previous record, set in 2013, when a 401-carat diamond was uncovered.
Alrosa has unveiled the New Sun, a 100-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond, deemed as the largest of its kind ever discovered in the country.
“The year 2025 will definitely take a special place in the history of the Russian diamond industry,” said ALROSA CEO Pavel Marinychev. In early April, we presented the largest diamond ever cut in our country, weighing over 100 carats, the cutting of which took more than two years. And this year, nature gave us such an incredible find. To date, this is the largest gem-quality diamond mined in Russia.”
In honor of the 80th anniversary of Russia’s involvement in the Allied victory of World War II, the diamond has been named “The Great Victory”.
“It is symbolic that it was found in the year of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Therefore, we decided to name it in honor of such a significant event for our entire country,” said Marinychev.
