The Jewelry Symposium (TJS) brought 131 attendees to Detroit, Michigan, from May 16–19 for its annual conference focused on jewellery manufacturing technology.

Ahead of the symposium, Jewelers of America and the MJSA Education Foundation co-hosted a roundtable attended by 100 industry professionals to discuss workforce shortages and the loss of skilled manufacturing talent.

Over three days, 20 speakers from seven countries—Germany, India, Italy, Spain, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States—presented technical papers covering additive manufacturing, casting and polishing defects, Artificial Intelligence in jewellery design, FTC guidelines, responsible sourcing, and other manufacturing topics.

According to TJS board chairman Linus Drogs, attendance increased 18 per cent compared with last year, continuing the growth since 2023. He said the workforce discussion generated practical conversations about hiring challenges and strategies used across the industry.

The program also included networking sessions, student mentoring, and discussions aimed at connecting manufacturers, suppliers, educators, and emerging professionals.
