Toronto-area jewellery businesses hit in string of safe thefts

In this edition of Crime Report, we cover a series of recent jewellery-related break-ins across Canada, including a foiled mall burglary in Alberta and multiple safe thefts across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Alberta mall jewellery store break-in foiled
A jewellery store in an enclosed mall in Lacombe, Alta., was targeted in a burglary around 3 a.m. on April 26, 2026.
Five suspects dressed in black attempted to enter both directly and through a neighbouring unit but failed, triggering the store’s alarm and fogging systems.
Witnesses nearby alerted police.
Multiple safe heists reported at flea markets and jewellery stores
Multiple reports indicate jewellery businesses across the Toronto area have been targeted in recent burglaries:
- Burglars broke into the Jewellery Exchange in Scarborough, Ont., and stole a safe around March 1, 2026.
- Burglars broke into Dr. Flea’s Flea Market in Toronto, Ont., and stole a safe around February 15, 2026.
- Burglars broke into a flea market in Toronto, Ont., and stole a safe around February 1, 2026.
