Gemological Science International (GSI), a global organization providing gemstone grading and identification solutions to manufacturers and retailers worldwide, has opened a new laboratory in Bangkok, Thailand. The facility is situated within the city’s central gem and jewellery district, a hub recognized for its role in the global trade of colored gemstones.

The GSI facility offers a full spectrum of gemmological services, including the testing and certification of natural and lab-grown diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, and finished jewellery. It also includes specialized screening for undisclosed lab-grown diamonds and simulants—a service of increasing relevance in today’s evolving gem market.

With this addition, the organization now operates 14 locations worldwide. The Bangkok site features advanced analytical equipment and a staff of locally trained gemologists, aiming to support both domestic and international clients involved in the gemstone supply chain.

Industry observers note that the new lab may help streamline certification processes in the region and bolster quality assurance in global gemstone commerce.

“Our mission is to continue expanding our laboratories to serve the evolving needs of the industry while reinforcing trust through objective, science-backed gemmological services,” said Debbie Azar, president of GSI. “Bangkok has long been a global epicenter for colored gemstone trading, and it’s essential for GSI to have a strong presence here, close to where our clients operate.”
