AGTA Spectrum Award’s Best of Show goes to suite of demantoid garnets

For the second year in a row, the top spot at American Gem Trade Association's (AGTA's) went to cut gemstones. Ruben Bindra of B & B Fine Gems took home Best of Show with a suite of round, brilliant Russian demantoid garnets (24.67 ctw).

De Beers/Mountain Province ramp-up to production at Gahcho Kué

Ore from Gahcho Kué is now being fed to a process plant, signaling the formal ramp-up of diamond production for Canada's newest diamond mine. According to De Beers Group and Mountain Province Diamonds—joint partners in the venture—the project remains on track to reach full commercial operation in the first quarter of 2017.

AGS/AGSL begin search for new CEO

The search is on to find a replacement for Ruth Batson, CEO of American Gem Society (AGS) and AGS Laboratories following news she will retire next year. "Ruth will be a tough act to follow and we appreciate she has provided ample notice so we can transition the new CEO under her guidance," said Louis Smith (Smithworks Fine Jewelry), who is leading the committee to replace Batson.
